USS Momsen to Return from Deployment

EVERETT, Wash. - Guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92) is scheduled to return to Naval Station Everett Nov. 10 from a seven month deployment in the Western Pacific.
As part of the inaugural Pacific Surface Action Group (PAC SAG), Momsen joined the San Diego-based guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance (DDG 111) and USS Decatur (DDG 73), as well as the embarked "Devil Fish" and "Warbirds" detachments of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 49.
The PAC SAG was led by Destroyer Squadron 31, from Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and operated under the U.S. 3rd Fleet. The PAC SAG conducted routine patrols, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation activities with allies and partners to enhance regional security and stability. Since deploying in April, the PAC SAG conducted several multilateral exercises with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Republic of Korea, Australia, France and joint exercises with the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps assets.
Momsen and Spruance also spent part of the deployment participating in the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI). OMSI is a Secretary of Defense program that uses Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard's maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operations in Oceania.
Cmdr. Jason Kipp, commanding officer, USS Momsen said "The PAC SAG was a practical way to address shared maritime security priorities, enhance our capabilities and improve interoperability between our partners and allies operating throughout the Pacific and South China Sea. It was a truly amazing experience to see the tremendous capabilities of this crew and its leadership's dedication to the success of this deployment."
U.S. 3rd Fleet leads naval forces in the Pacific and provides the realistic, relevant training necessary for an effective global Navy. U.S. 3rd Fleet works constantly with U.S. 7th Fleet. The forces of both fleets complement one another across the spectrum of military operations in the Pacific.
