Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor
Location: Tsunami Pool

Brief Description of Duties:
Lifeguard, NF-01 - Responsible for safety of swimmers in the pool. Enforces swimming pool regulations, safety rules are followed and account all participants at all times. Assist swimmers having difficulty, rescues those in trouble and renders first aid until such time a qualified doctor or other emergency personnel are present. Performs housekeeping tasks for proper standards of cleanliness, free from hazards, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities. Assists in pool chemistry maintenance with good knowledge of all aspects of water safety rules and procedures. Provide customer assistance and supplies information regarding the facility and its programs. May assist with scheduled pool parties, after hours of operation or with base wide special events.
Aquatics Instructor, NF-02 - Conducts American Red Cross, Learn to Swim Program. Conducts swim qualification tests for patrons and issues certificates of completion. Responsible to instruct aquatic activities such as Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Aerobics Instructor. Assists in the preparation of materials and providing patrons of information on those programs. Must remain alert and observe swimming area to ensure all water safety rules is observed by swimmers. Performs rescue work and renders first aid until a qualified doctor or emergency personnel are present. Performs daily housekeeping tasks to ensure cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities. May operate a computer and receive money for fees and class registration. Determines patron eligibility. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements: Successful completion of a National Agency (NACI) background check required as condition of employment. Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age.
Lifeguard, NF-01 - Incumbent must hold current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard training or equivalent, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid. Incumbents without a valid Lifeguarding certification must enroll in the Lifeguarding course provided by Naval Station Everett Aquatics Center and obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Must be knowledgeable of emergency water safety procedures. Must pass annual swim test demonstrating ability to perform the work. Must be able to demonstrate effective verbal communication skills.
Aquatics Instructor: NF-02 - Must hold current certification in Lifeguard training or equivalent, Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguard Instructor or Aquatics Fitness Instructor from recognized agencies. Must obtain Water Safety Instructor certification within 9 months. Must be knowledgeable of emergency water safety procedures, policies, written instructions and directives. Must pass an annual swim test demonstrating ability to perform the work. Effectively meet and deal courteously with the public, present a neat, clean appearance and be able to exercise control over a group of people.
